Pirates head back to the ‘Ship

Belfry’s defense swarms to the ball against Ashland Blazer last week in the Class 3A region championship. The Pirates traveled to DeSales last night and picked up a 15-14 win in double-overtime. Trailing 14-13 in the second overtime, Belfry coach Philip Haywood decided to go for two after DeSales called a timeout to ice the kicker. The move paid off as Isaac Dixon scored on the two-point conversion to give the Pirates a 15-14 win in double-overtime in the Class 3A state semifinals. Belfry will take on Bell County and former UPike coach Dudley Hilton next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Class 3A state championship at Kroger Field.
