James Larry Bevins, 82, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Tug Valley Regional Medical Center, Williamson.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Williamson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Linda Coleman

Linda Lou Adkins Coleman, 72, of Regina, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at her residence.

She was born in Pike County, May 23, 1947, the daughter of the late Homer and Hazel Robinson Adkins.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Kent Coleman; her second husband, Bruce Coleman; and one brother, Rod Adkins.

She is survived by one daughter, Angela Goff (Joseph); one grandchild, Clinton A. Goff; one sister, Betty Goff; six brothers, Bill Adkins, Donnie Adkins, Bobby Adkins, Leonard Adkins, Mike Adkins and Steve Adkins; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Burton Adkins Family Cemetery, Rockhouse.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 28, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Janet Renee Cantrell Hernendez Gomez, 52, of Pikeville, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, Hazard.

She was born at Defiance, Ohio, June 23, 1967, the daughter of the late Kenneth Blake Cantrell and Mary Lee Adams Cantrell Riley.

She was a former dry cleaner and member of the Sulfur Independent Baptist Church of Elkhorn City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Potter.

She is survived by her husband, Antonio “Tony” Hernendez Gomez; one son, Juan Octavio Romero, of Fullerton, Calif.; five sisters, Samantha Rodriguez, of Marrowbone, Shevella Justice (Chris), of Pikeville, Lora Cantrell, of Millard, Sandra Sexton and Loretta “Maw” Potter, both of Mouthcard; two brothers, Kenneth Cantrell (Rosie), of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Jeffery Cantrell, of Defiance, Ohio; seven nieces and two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at the Vallie Cantrell Cemetery, Left Fork of Rockhouse. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Doris Porter

Doris Belcher Porter, 91, of Willow Oak Circle, Lexington, died Sunday, June 23, 2019, at her residence.

She was born in Pike County, May 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Victor and Cordelia Osborne Belcher.

She was the wife of the late Billy Joe Porter, a former school teacher, beautician, Kentucky Colonel and owner of Dorton Skating Rink and Giovanni’s Pizza at Dorton. She was also a member of the Dorton Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Belcher.

She is survived by one son, Gary Joe Porter (Pamela); one brother, Arnold Belcher; two sisters, Stella Cook and Loraine Potter; two grandchildren, Megan Bryan (Trevor) and Dustin Porter; three great-grandchildren, Kaya, Mya and C.J.; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Dorton Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Victor Belcher Cemetery, Blaze Branch, Dorton.

Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 27, at the funeral home, with church services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

“Rusty” Rowe

Mark Rustin “Rusty” Rowe, 59, of Pikeville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, June 23, 2019.

He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded the Rifle Expert Badge, Meritorious Mast and a Letter of Commendation. He loved his family dearly.  It was his joy to be married to his high school sweetheart, Dawn. He lived out his faith by serving others and always being a generous giver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Garrett and Ruth Gray Rowe.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Deskins Rowe; his son, Curt Lowndes (Jenny), of Durham, N.Car.; his daughter, Kelly Garrett Rowe-Jones (Ryan), of Pikeville; his granddaughters, Eloise and Olive Lowndes; his brother, Mike Rowe (Karen), of Myrtle Beach, S.Car.; his sisters, Judy Keen, of Somerset, and Misty Potter (Reed), of Pikeville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

“A Life Redeemed” memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the First Christian Church, 313 Chloe Road, Pikeville, with Scott Hoffman officiating.

Mary Lou Smith, 86, of Millers Creek, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at Pikeville Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born in Perry County, Dec. 16, 1932, the daughter of the late David Ralph and Dale Kelly Beavan.

She was a homemaker and member of the Christian Life Fellowship Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Larry Beavan, Jean Glott and Clauda Sue Shackelford.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Randolph B. Smith, of Pikeville; four daughters, Sharon Rusnak (Stefan) and Suzanne Elliott (Joseph), both of Florida, Nancy Anne Smith and Linda Brown (Chris), both of Pikeville, and Lisa May, of Raccoon; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Beavan, of Florida, and Robert Beavan, of Hazard.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Valley Cemetery, Millers Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
