Julia Bryant, 80, of Long Fork, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at her residence.  

She was born at Weeksbury, June 28, 1939, to the late Sam and Bertha Hall.  

She was a homemaker and was baptized Dec. 8, 2019.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Bryant; three brothers, Curtis Hall, Ernest Hall and Kenis Hall; and six sisters, Zelda Newsome, Mary Ann Hall, Emma Senters, Cora Kiser, Mildred Hall and Ellen Newsome.

She is survived by two sons, James Bryant (Donna) and Terry Bryant (Sheryl), both of Long Fork; one daughter, Renee Wright (Chris), of Little Robinson; one brother, Ralph Hall, of Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Irene Edna Ellis, of Milford, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jamie, Bennie, Dennie, Daron, Trey and Landon; and five great-grandchildren, Caylee, Brayden, Carter, Paxton and Alexis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at the Long Fork Freewill Baptist Church with Greg White officiating. Burial will follow at the Amos Newsom Memorial Cemetery, Robinson Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

“Jim” Dotson

James “Jim” Dotson, 77, of Ransom, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Pikeville Medical Center.  

He was born in Pike County, Feb. 28, 1942, the son of the late Bill and Jane Smith Dotson.

He fellowshipped at the Victory in Jesus Church at Sidney. He was a retired coal

miner from Eastern Coal Corporation and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed being with family and friends and he loved to rabbit hunt. He greatly enjoyed helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Ocie Blankenship Dotson, of Ransom; two daughters, Sandra Dotson, of Prestonsburg, and Sherry Young (Keith), of Hardy; and one son, J.B. Dotson (Meletta), of Ransom; three grandchildren, whom he loved

dearly, Christopher Dempsey (Jamee), of Elkhorn City, Crystal Dempsey, of Johnson

City, Tenn., and Kerrigan Grace Dotson, of Ransom; two great-grandchildren, Lily

Dempsey and Khloe Dempsey; three brothers, Jack Dotson (Vicki), of Richmond, Va.,

Claudius Leon Dotson (Justine), of Robinson Creek, and George Dotson (Pamela), of Ransom; one sister, Linda Lou Whitt (Bucky), of Ransom; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at the Hatfield

Funeral Chapel at Toler, with Bro. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the

Willie Jake Hager Cemetery, Ransom, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Bobby Gene Maynard, 80, of Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, died Saturday Jan. 11, 2020, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born at Fishtrap, Dec. 12, 1939, a son of the late William Hereford and Jettie Angeline Justice Maynard.

He was a retired truck driver for Pepsi and of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Elkins Maynard; one son, Bobby Kent Maynard; two sisters, Melster Maynard and Madeline Greer; and five brothers, Chester Maynard, Virgus Maynard, Clayton Maynard, Clifford Maynard and Jack Maynard.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin Gene Maynard (Jane), of Pikeville, and Paul David Maynard, of Harold; two sisters, Virginia Justice and Blanche May, both of Pikeville; and four grandchildren, Jacob Maynard, Will Maynard, Hannah Maynard and Cameron Maynard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Melvin Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at the Annie E. She was born in Detroit, Mich., April 4, 1957, the daughter of the late Charlie and Marjorie Adams.

She was a factory worker and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin Ray (Lori) and Kenneth Ray Jr. (Christina), both of Tennessee; one daughter, Rosanna Thompson, of Tennessee; five brothers, Charlie Stanfield, of Pikeville, Jeffery Adams, of Michigan, Randy Adams, of Tennessee, Manuel Adams, of Pike County, and Sam Adams, of Tennessee; three sisters, Phyllis Adams, of Michigan, Lynn Dailey, of North Carolina, and Delphia Justice, of Pike County; seven grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

She was born at Edo, July 10, 1929, the daughter of the late Bogar and Bunia Stiltner Gannon.

Willie Roberts, 87, of Sarah Branham Hollow, formerly of Walbridge, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 10, 1932, to the late Charlie and Mary Rogers Roberts.

He was retired from the railroad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Roberts; one daughter, Mary Dube’; and five brothers, Arlin Roberts, Reed Roberts, Dewey Roberts, Arnold Roberts and Bennie Roberts.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Roberts, of Ardmore, Tenn., and William Roberts, of Walbridge, Ohio; two daughters, Nancy Sawyer, of Douglasville, Ga., and Jean Roberts, of Holland, Ohio; three brothers, Frank Roberts, of Caney, Cecil Roberts, of McDowell, and Joseph Roberts, of Robinson Creek; one sister, Fretia Roberts, of Sarah Branham Hollow; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Teddy Honaker, Mike Justice and others officiating. Burial will follow at the Amos Newsom Memorial Cemetery, Robinson Creek.

James E. Thacker, 72, of River Hurricane, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at the Huntington VA Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

He was born in Pike County, Nov. 3, 1947, the son of the late Martin and Hassie Varney Thacker.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Shelley Denise Thacker; and three sisters, Catherine Mullins, Imogene Curry and Mae Curry.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Yates Thacker, of Raccoon; one son, Scotty Thacker (Stephanie), of Paris; two daughters, Meleasa Shelley (Shawn), of Greenville, S.Car., and Michelle Thacker (Michael), of Shelbiana; one brother, Clinton Thacker, of Millard; one sister, Phyllistene Goff, of Somerset; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with David Allen Thacker officiating. Burial will follow at the Thacker Cemetery, River Hurricane. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
