Samuel Bentley

Samuel “Sambo” Bentley, 65, of Left Fork of Long Fork, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Dec. 10, 1946, the son of the late Theodore and Belle Stewart Bentley.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Fleming Bentley; and one sister, Mildred Tackett.

He is survived by one daughter, Brandy Bentley of Long Fork; three brothers, Helton Bentley and Lonnie Bentley, both of Oakland, Md., and Johnny Bentley of Long Fork; and one sister, Melphia Taylor of Long Fork.

Graveside services were held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, in the Sam Bentley Cemetery, Left Fork of Long Fork. Arrangements were under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Chrystal Burchett

Chrystal Lynn Burchett, 49, of Auxier, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Paintsville, Sept. 26, 1962, the daughter of Ray and Madelyn Sue Porter Burchett of Prestonsburg.

She was a high impact aerobics instructor at Highlands Regional Medical Center and Big Sandy Community and Technical College, and was a member of the Cow Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she is survived by one brother, Robert Ray Burchett of Prestonsburg; and two sisters, Kimberly Carole Lewis and Lisa Gaye Burchett, both of Prestonsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, in the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Nathan Lafferty and  Bill Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.

Visitation is all day Friday, June 1.

Cathryn Catron

Cathryn Marie (Hodge) Catron, 59, of Princeton, W.Va., formerly of Naugatuck, W.Va., died Monday, May 28, 2012, in Princeton.

She was born in South Williamson, July 1, 1952, the daughter of the late Glen and Stella Bowens Hodge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Sue Stroud; two brothers, Wendell R. Hodge and David L. Hodge; and one granddaughter, Christina Thornton.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Catron; one son, Dennis R. Stroud of Princeton; three daughters, Patricia Ann Stroud, Loretta Lynn Stroud and Delina Kay Stroud, all of Princeton; five brothers, Donald Hodge and Mike Hodge, both of Naugatuck, Ira Hodge of Riffe Branch, Glen Hodge Jr. of Duncan Fork, Ronnie Marcum of Genoa, W.Va.; two sisters, Joyce White of Laurel Creek, W.Va., and Wanda Sue Hodge of Prichard, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Marcum officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Naugatuck. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Services of Toler.

Visitation is Saturday, from 11 a.m. until time for services.

John Justice

John Franklin Justice, 69, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, April 2, 1943, the son of the late John Justice and Francis Duty.

He was a disabled U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Bradley Justice; and one brother, Bobby Justice.

He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Justice of Pikeville; one brother, David Justice of Pikeville; two sisters, Sharon Ferrell of Florida and Marry Ann Alderman of Tennessee;  and two grandchildren, April Renee Blair and Shelby Nicole Compton of Pikeville.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

The DAV will also conduct services.

John Lockhart

John William Lockhart, 63, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, May 30, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Richlands, Va., Dec. 8, 1948, the son of the late Edward Thomas Lockhart and Trula Belle Jackson Lockhart.

He was a construction foreman and a member of Pikeville United Methodist Church since March 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Michelle Wagner Lockhart, whom he married May 23, 1986; one son, John William “Will” Lockhart II of Pikeville; two daughters, Ashley Brooke Campbell (Matthew) of Mann, W.Va., and Hannah Leigh Lockhart of Pikeville; two brothers, James “Jim” Lockhart and Michael Lockhart, both of Richlands, Va.; four sisters, Deanna Jackson and Linda Shortt, both of Richlands, Gincy Stezar of Silver Springs, Md., Angela Boyda of Abingdon, Va.; and two grandchildren, Aubrie Ella Campbell and Amelia Mattea Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Brad Smart officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Fred Muncy

Fred Muncy, 90, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Hesy (Rockhouse), Aug. 6, 1921, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Hale Muncy.

He was a coal miner, retired from District 17 Eastern, a carpenter for 10 years, and a member of the  Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Woody Fred Muncy; and one sister, Jane Ammar.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dora Webb Muncy; one son, James Ervin Muncy; one daughter, Kathy Cline; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Smith and Dave Keeton officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Ernest Ramey

Ernest Ramey, 93, of Russell Springs, died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Russell County Hospital.

He was born in Pike County, March 2, 1919, the son of the late Jeremiah Ramey and Elizabeth Phillips Ramey.

He was a coal miner, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Hunt Ramey; his second wife, Veronica Hogan Ramey; two sons, Jimmy Ramey and David Ramey; one sister; two brothers; and several grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Freeman E. Ramey of  Lohrville, Wis., and Ted Ramey of Russell Springs; five daughters, Mary E. Stanley, Analee Langbauer and Wanda Varney, all of Russell Springs, Rosalie Stump of Phelps and Tina Ramey of Jamestown; one sister, Ersie Layne of Pike County; 30 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, in the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eddie Wade and Bro. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy. Arrangements were under direction of Bernard Funeral Home of Russell Springs.

Joe Thompson

Joe Clifford Thompson, 88, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

He was born in Pikeville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Keva Thompson; and one brother, Adam Thompson.

He is survived by two sons, Tom Thompson (Elizabeth) and Rod Thompson (Karin); one daughter, Kathy Pharis; one brother, Dan Thompson; one sister, Bobbi Corbin; seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, in the Cole & Garrett Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, Ala. Arrangements are under direction of Cole & Garrett Funeral Home of Hendersonville.
