Barbara Ellen Simpkins Ball, 72, of Thacker, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.  

She was born Dec. 9, 1946, to the late James Elmer and Zona Simpkins.

She was of the Christian faith and her favorite pastimes in life were fishing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas Warren Ball Jr. (Bobbie Jo) and Daniel Lee Ball (Patty), both of Thacker, W.Va.; two daughters, Rhonda Ball and Donna Justice, both of Phelps; one sister, Patricia Ann Dye, of Charleston, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren, Tristan, Kara, Jacklyn, Elisha, Jessica, Hannah, Cortland, Jacob, Megan, Angela, Danielle, Derek, Daniel, Ryan, Amber and Andrew; 12 great-grandchildren, Ryder, Mathis, Lilah, Akira, Adam, Joyanna, Erin, Natalie, Caden, Brooklyn, Addison and Brayden; two nephews, Charles Jones and Joseph Jones; a host of nieces and nephews; and her little dog, Maggie Moo.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Dotson officiating. Burial followed at the Ball Family Cemetery, Thacker, West Virginia. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

Dennis Blackburn, 65, of Sidney, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2019, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with ministers of the Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the May Cemetery, Dix Fork.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home with special services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Patricia Ann Thornbury Burchett, 86, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at her residence.

She was born March 24, 1933, the daughter of the late Dr. George W. and Pearl Cline Thornbury.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church where she was an active member of Harmony Sunday School Class. She was also an avid Bridge player.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jack R. Burchett; four daughters, Debbie Murphy (Rick), of Lexington, Susan Huffman and Linda Greer (Jeff), both of Pikeville, and Donna Kendra, of New Jersey; two sons, Jack O. Burchett (Kathy) and Tom Burchett (Tiffany), both of Pikeville; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgene Morris (John), of Birmingham, Ala.; two nephews, Dr. John S. Morris (Peggy) and Dr. Scott Morris (Nan); one niece, Ann Watson (John); two special caregivers, Nancy Fields and Laura Mullins; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Pikeville. Burial will follow at the Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, with Josh Miller, Jeremy Hall, Chase Huffman, Matthew Huffman, Luke Huffman, Ross Murphy and Derick Murphy serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Harmony Sunday School Class and her card playing friends. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Patty Lou Robinson, 79, of Shelbiana, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Pike County, Oct. 21, 1940, the daughter of the late Claude and Vannie Williams.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Diana Thacker; one son-in-law, Lonnie Jim Thacker; two brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Gene Robinson; three daughters, Sheila Jo Preston, Jennifer Lynn Robinson and Karen Denise Robinson; one son, James Dean Robinson; one sister, Betty Jo Robinson; two brothers, Claude Williams and Roma Dean Williams; five grandchildren, Robert Preston, James Preston (Nikki), Beth Pugh (Ryan), Joseph Preston (Ashley) and Jentra Robinson; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Jack Adkins and others officiating. Burial followed at the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Bobby Wayne Simpson, 52, of Hellier, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pikeville, April 2, 1967, the son of Bobby Earl “Chippy and Arnetta Gibson Simpson, of Hellier.

He was a painter for Premium Contracting.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Brady Ethan Simpson, of Pikeville; two daughters, Marissa Paige Johnson, of Shelbiana, and Kayla Sierra Simpson, of Hellier; one brother, Michael Ray Simpson, of Ohio; five grandchildren, Macyn Wayne Chaney, KyLee Combs, Fisher Case, Brayden Johnson and Paislee Johnson; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at the Allegheny Freewill Baptist Church with Richard Gibson, Ray Tackett and Ritchie Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at the Cook Cemetery, Marions Branch, Ashcamp.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the church with services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., of Elkhorn City.
