Kenny Bentley

Kenny Bentley, 65, of Mt. Sterling, formerly of Dorton, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Mt. Sterling.

He was born in Pike County, April 1, 1954, the son of the late Smith and Maggie Belcher Bentley.

He was a retired coal miner, mechanic and a member of the Lexington United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Bessie Bentley.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Ray Bentley; four sons, Chad Bentley (Sarah), of Winchester, Eric Bentley (Tara), of Mt. Sterling, Parker Parker, of Mt. Sterling, and Sterling Bruce Parker, of Baton Rouge, La.; three brothers, Carl Bentley, of Pikeville, Clyde Bentley, of Jenkins, and Claude Bentley (Carolyn), of Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, Chase Bentley, Korbin Bentley and Kenzie Bentley; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Taul Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling, with David Nichols and others officiating. Burial followed at Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Virginia Burden, 90, of Greasy Creek Road, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.

Mary Chapman

Mary Ann Chapman, 76, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Pike County, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at her residence.  

She was born at Freeburn, May 27, 1942, a daughter of the late Hobert and Josephine Chapman McClanahan.

She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She loved painting and decorating her home. She also loved nature and the beauty of the outdoors. She especially loved Kentucky and the beach. She enjoyed babysitting and being around children. She was one of the best mothers you’d ever meet in your life. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Westerns. She was truly one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jay Chapman; one son, John Kennedy Chapman; three brothers, Homer Thompson, Gary McClanahan and Paul James McClanahan; and one sister, Cornetta Thompson.

She is survived by one son, Jason Chapman, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Teresa Highlands (Dave) and Alicia Ann Murphy (Blair), both of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brittany Hart, David Highlands III, Brendan Murphy and Braxton Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Levi Jay Hart and Sophia Ann Marie Hart; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Freeburn Free Pentecostal Church with Reverend Kenny Chapman officiating. Burial followed at the Chapman Family Cemetery, Freeburn. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

Emery Slone

Emery Slone, 67, of Raccoon Road, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Oct. 12, 1951, the son of the late Ervin and Madge Inis Coleman Slone.

He was a master plumber and a member of the Grassy Freewill Baptist Church at Raccoon for 19 years.

He is survived by his wife, Delores J. Hamilton Slone; one daughter, Bethany Ann Slone Gabbard, of Nicholasville; one son-in-law, Joseph M. Gabbard; one sister, Emma Sue Ratliff (Harry), of Raccoon; one brother, Sterling Arnold Slone, of Howard, Ohio; one grandchild on the way; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Goff and Brad Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road, Shelbiana.

Erma Lene Tackett, 76, of Petty Fork of Long Fork, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 18, 1942, the daughter of the late Daniel and Pearl Mullins Bentley. She was a member of the Speight Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Mullins and Scott Bentley; and one sister, Willa Bushway.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Tackett; one son, Wally Tackett (Kim), of Brownstown, Mich.; one daughter, Selena Stewart (Keith), of Virgie; one sister, Eva Mullins, of Virgie; two brothers-in-law, Mallie Tackett, of Tennessee, and Eldred Tackett, of Lincoln Park, Mich.; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Mullins, of McRoberts, Nora Mullins, of Morehead, and Mary Tackett, of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Daniel Stewart (Lanora), Leigha Stewart, Kara Hool (Charlie) and Lance Tackett (Sarah); 10 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Lucas, MaKaden, Katie, Daylee, Lily, Cal, Liam, Jagger and Colt; her special caregivers, Loretta Muncy and Joanna Stewart; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Stewart and Brad Taylor officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road, Shelbiana. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday with services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
