Teresa Jean Adkins, 60, of Poor Bottom, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at her residence.

She was born at Pikeville, Nov. 22, 1958, the daughter of the late Raymond and Manthalee Stiltner Adkins.

She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Sammie Adkins.

She is survived by her son, Brian Caudill (Jessica), of Norton, Va.; two sisters, Peggy Brosovich, of Howland, Ohio, and Joyce Reid, of Taylor, Mich.; two brothers, Paul Adkins and Freddie Adkins, both of Poor Bottom; three grandchildren, Kaylei, Madison and Hadley; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Gibson officiating. Burial followed at the Bow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., of Elkhorn City.

Irene Blackburn, 88, of Sidney, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born at Huddy, Jan. 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Johnny and Nancy Spears Williamson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Blackburn; and her brothers, James L., Thomas J. “Edsel” and Ernest Russell Williamson.

She is survived by her loving sons, Gary Blackburn (Diana L.), Dennis Blackburn (Bonnie L.) and Ronald Blackburn (Cynthia N.), all of Dix Fork; her sisters, Clairene Elswick, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Blackburn, of Louisville; her brother, Bobby Williamson, of Canada; her grandchildren, Rebecca Irene Blackburn, Amber Dawn Goble, Robert Paris Blackburn, John Matthew Blackburn and Zachary Tyler Blackburn; her great-grandchildren, Amelia Goble, Abigail Blackburn, Elliana Blackburn, Benjamin Blackburn and Gabrielle Blackburn; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Derek McCoy officiating. Burial followed at the May Cemetery, Dix Fork. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Sadie Branham, 93, of Caney, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Pikeville Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born June 13, 1926, to the late Joe and Sara Roberts Branham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Lee Newcomb; one daughter, Sandra Carol Newcomb; four brothers, Curtis Branham, Clyde Branham, Glen Branham and Creed Branham; and three sisters, Belva Newcomb, Molly Oney and Annette Yates.

She is survived by two sisters, Vernie Branham, of Pikeville, and Edna Mueninghoff, of Louisville; one brother, Andrew Branham (Sue), of Pikeville; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Neil Coleman, of the Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial followed at the Booker Fork Cemetery, Caney Highway. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

“Billy” Freeman

William Everette “Billy” Freeman, 68, of Fedscreek Road, Steele, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at his residence.

He was born at Fedscreek, Oct. 9, 1951, the son of the late William Anthony and Phyllis Fuller Freeman.

He was the owner/operator of Woodman #3 Mine and Freeman Farm. He was a member of the Thomas C. Cecil Lodge #375, El Hasa Shrine, 32 Degree Scottish Rite and the Coal Co-Operators Association. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Feds Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Madison Bailee Frederick; and one son-in-law, Chris Frederick.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Griffith Freeman; one son, William Anthony “Bill” Freeman II (Geri); three daughters, Michelle Frederick (Chris), Alicion Freeman Slone and Tabitha Stoll (Adam); two brothers, Johnny Freeman (Anita) and Joe Freeman (Tracy); three grandchildren, Christin Steele Frederick, Caroline Mikah Slone and Matthew Robert Stoll; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Lloyd Holland and Benny Joe Freeman officiating. The eulogy will be read by Steve Belcher. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Big Rock, Virginia.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Julia Ann Tackett, 95, of Long Fork, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 1, 1924, to the late Garfield and Ida Taylor.

After starting her career in teaching in a two-room schoolhouse, she retired from George F. Johnson Elementary School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vogal Tackett; her daughter, Paula Gwynn Sturgill; her grandson, Daniel Brett Sturgill; and five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Vogal Benet Tackett (Senega), of Long Fork; her daughter, Lanette Street (Joe Gary), of Grundy; five grandchildren, Melanie, Jodi, Jessica, Cody and Annetta Jo (Thank you for moving in and taking such wonderful care of our mother.); 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

The family would also like to thank all family members who helped out during this time.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Johnson and George Johnson Jr. officiating. Deborah Anne Taylor, 67, of Dry Fork, Shelbiana, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born at Detroit, Mich., Oct. 10, 1952, the daughter of the late James and Helen Baggett Williamson.

She was employed in housekeeping at Pikeville College and was of the Southern Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Taylor; and one brother, Edward Taylor.

She is survived by one son, Thomas McAvoy (Penny); two daughters, Deborah Garofalo (Raymond) and Jamie Bannerman (Allen); four sisters, Jackie Urban (Marc), Marcy Neault, Rhonda Taylor-Claerhout (Bill) and Pamela Taylor-Kramer; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St Jude’s in her memory.
