Marvene Blackburn, 76, of Missouri Branch, Pikeville, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at his residence.

He was born in Pike County, Aug. 11, 1943, the son of the late Lester and Lucina Blackburn.

He was a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Runyon Blackburn, of Missouri Branch; one son, Steven Blackburn (Melody), of Michigan; one daughter, Brenda Vanhoose (Steve), of Prestonsburg; two brothers, Danny Blackburn (Sue) and Eugene Blackburn (Barbara), both of Pike County; two sisters, Delores Knauf (Roger) and Brenda Fitch (Jess), both of Ohio; one grandchild, Kaylee Blackburn; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Blackburn officiating. Burial followed at the K.B. Blackburn Valley Cemetery, Missouri Branch. Arrangements were under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Randall Clark

Randall Clark, 61, of Burnette Road, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, May 19, 1958, the son of Julia Reed Thompson, of Pennington Gap, Va., and the late Chester Clark.

He was a coal miner.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Clark and Richard Clark; and one sister, Rena Marcum.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, JoAnn Mullins Clark, of Burnette Road; two sons, William Jarrod Clark and Wesley Alvis Clark, both of Pike County; one brother, Bruce Thompson, of Elkhorn City; one sister, Sherry Whitaker, of Pennington Gap, Va.; his fur babies, Ryder, Tippy and Socks; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Burnette Cemetery.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home with services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Nellie Elkins

Nellie Elkins, 86, of Virgie, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.   

She was born March 15, 1933, to the late Jesse Newsome and Eliza Elswick Newsome.  She was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith and a retired Judicial Secretary of the Kentucky Supreme Court.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Doll Roberts, Martha Newsome, Draxie Damron, Dahlia Hampton, Daisy Sexton and Mary Tackett.

She is survived by one son, Lloyd Jesse Elkins (Ida), of Hazard; three daughters, Denise Kelch, of Lexington, Barbara Maynard (Rodney), of Pikeville, and Susan Beth Elkins, of London; two sisters, Rosie Hopkins, of Robinson Creek, and Myrtle Smith, of Sydney; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed at the Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie

Katherine Jaunita “Kathy” Remfrey, 86, of Warsaw, Ind., went home to be with Jesus at 4:40 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center of Warsaw, Ind., surrounded by her loving family.

She was born a coal miner’s daughter on Feb. 11, 1933, at Phelps, to Gracie Pearl Blankenship (Lester) and Roscoe Blankenship.  

On Aug. 21, 1965, she was married to Samual Arnold Remfrey, who survives.

She has been a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., for the past 59 years and was affiliated with Claypool Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. She worked for over 21 years at Sun Metal Products in Warsaw. When she wasn’t taking care of her family or working she enjoyed reading, crafts, loved adult coloring books and her cooking shows. More than anything, she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters and one grandson.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Samual Arnold Remfrey, of Warsaw, Ind.; her son, Joshua Remfrey (Tara), of Waterloo, Ind.; two daughters,  Regina Wadkins (Jerry), of Kimmell, Ind., and Sonja Lett (Jeff), of Bourbon, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Garney Blankenship (Cheryl), of Warsaw, Indiana.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. There will also be time for visitation on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Katherine’s life will be celebrated with a service that will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Wadkins officiating. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool, Indiana. Everyone is welcome to join the family for dinner following the graveside service at the Claypool Lions Building, 201 W. Calhoun Street, Claypool, Ind., hosted by the Claypool Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home of Warsaw, Indiana.

Leon Robinson, 71, of Stanley Fork, Varney, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Nov. 11, 1948, the son of the late Cleston and Gredis Nichols Robinson.

He was a coal miner and a member of the Little Virgie Old Regular Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, J.C., Curtis and William Dover Robinson; and three sisters, Okie Mae Clark, Betty Jo McGhan and Roberta McCoy.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Stanley Robinson, of Varney; two daughters, Melissa Parsons (Terry) and Jennifer Robinson, both of Varney; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Virgie Robinette (George), of Varney, and Tilda Hinkle, of Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at the Pilgrim Rest Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanley Cemetery, Varney.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Burma Jo Bowling Sturgill, 78, of Marrowbone Creek Road, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center.   

She was born in Pike County, Dec. 1, 1941, the daughter of the late Fon Bowling and Lois Hunt Bowling.

She was a homemaker and a believer of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Douglas Bowling and her infant brother, Homer Morris Bowling.

She is survived by one son, Michael Dwayne Blevins (Deborah); one brother, Howard Keith Bowling; two grandchildren, Alyssa Blevins Coleman (Jordan) and Courtney Blevins; one great-grandchild, Hunter Steven Coleman; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Mitchie Paul Coleman and other Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed at the Coleman Family Cemetery, Wolfpit. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
