James Easterling

James Leo Easterling, 51, of Canada, formerly of Dorton, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Buchanan County General Hospital, Grundy, Virginia.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1968, the son of Barbara Hayes, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and the late Billy Joe Easterling.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Frank Hayes, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his wife, Maggi Stytle Easterling; one daughter, Madalyn Shayne Easterling, of the home; and one sister, Melster Slone (James), of Marrowbone.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Elder James Stytle officiating. Burial will follow at the Ballard Osborne Cemetery, Owl Branch. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Phyllis Anne Conway Maynard, 75, of Pikeville, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at her residence.

She was born at Pikeville, July 3, 1944, the daughter of the late Lora and Elva Daniels Conway.

She received her master’s degree from Morehead State University and was a teacher at Mullins Elementary and a member of the Christian Life Fellowship Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. “Pal” Maynard; and seven siblings, Tommy, Jimmy, Burt, Ronald and Loran Conway, Mary Morley and Esta Coleman.

She is survived by one son, Palmikeal Maynard (Evelyn), of Pikeville; four daughters, Palmyra Davenport, of Raleigh, N.Car., Ervina Hall, of Somerset, and Thomasena Maynard and Sara Anne Emmons (Dave), both of Pikeville; one brother, Chuck Conway, of Leesburg, Fla.; one sister, Helen Smith, of Paintsville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road, Shelbiana. Serving as pallbearers will be: Jordan Simpson, Daniel Coleman, Noah Davenport, Zachary Hall, Jarrod Canada, Mikeal Maynard, Benjamin Maynard, Harrison Baldridge, Chad Baldridge, Matthew Emmons and Conner Coleman. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Wyatt Simpson and Cayden Sexton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the beginning of funeral services on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christian Life Fellowship Church, 6155 Hurricane Road, Pikeville, KY 41501.

She was born on May 15, 1955, the daughter of the late Tivis and Kelsie Little Roberts.

She was a member of the Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church and a former employee of Walmart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terry McCown; one son, Doug McCown; one brother, Nicky Dale Roberts; and four sisters, Ruth Ellen Sharp, Norma Jean Fleming, Mattie Ann Roberts and Mary Lou Patterson.

She is survived by two sons, Bryan McCown (Amber), of Little Robinson, and Stephen Shane McCown (Shena), of Stone Coal; one brother, Roy Lee Roberts, of Caney; two sisters, Patsy Gail Smith, of Coal Run, and Tammy Johnson, of Myra; five grandchildren, Corey Wright, Christin Lovins (Phillip), Logan McCown, Alyssa McCown and Braydon McCown; three great-grandchildren, Mason Kade Lewis, Maddox Gray Lovins and Maverick Klay Lovins; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019, at the Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Tyler Bentley, Billy Compton and others officiating. Burial will follow at the Doll Bartley Cemetery, Caney Creek.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 13, at the church with services beginning at 7 p.m. each night. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
