Pikeville aviation pioneer honored

Pikeville officials pose with the newly-unveiled mural of renowned Pikeville native and aviation education pioneer John Paul Riddle at the Pikeville-Pike County Airport. The mural was unveiled Monday before a large crowd which included representatives of the Embry-Riddle Flying School, of which John Paul Riddle was a co-founder. The mural, painted by artist Ryan “ARCY” Christenson, will be a permanent fixture of the terminal at the airport. Pictured, from left,  are Pikeville Main Street Director Minta Chaney, Pikeville City Commissioner Alison Powers, Pikeville City Manager Philip Elswick, Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter and Pikeville City Commissioner Patrick McNamee.
