Car destroyed, one person injured in crash

A wreck left one vehicle destroyed and injured one driver on U.S. 23 at the Allen intersection Friday morning. Kentucky State Police Trooper Shane Hurtt reported that the preliminary investigation revealed that a man driving a Toyota truck was attempting to cross U.S. 23 into Allen when a Nissan, which ran a red light, hit his vehicle. Hurtt said the driver of the Toyota was treated for what appeared to be minor injuries. Dakota Maynard of Pikeville, the driver of the Nissan, did not appear to be injured. Prestonsburg Fire Chief Mike Brown reported the car was fully engulfed in flameswhen he arrived on scene. The Allen Volunteer Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance, Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted.
