During the Jan. 7 meeting of the Pike County Fiscal Court, the court discussed an amendment which officials said has been requested regarding the county’s 25-year lease agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dealing with Fishtrap Lake.
Assistant County Attorney Kevin Keene said the amendment would see the county take in a “larger portion” of the campground located at the Fishtrap Marina.
According to Pike County Grant Administrator Sharon Hall, the current lease agreement is for a number of properties surrounding Fishtrap and will give the county 29 additional new tracks to the property, which she said is adjacent to the campground.
“The expansion will help the county with future development,” Hall said.
Dist. 1 Commissioner Ronnie Robertson echoed Hall’s sentiments, as he said the expansion would be a great opportunity, due to the current campsites “always” being full year-round.
“What we’re going to try and do,” Robertson said. “Is at the end of that extension road, on Upper Pompey, there’s some property up there that they’re (The Corps) willing to lease to us so we could put in a larger campground up at Fishtrap.”
According to Hall, the Corps will be preparing the lease amendment and it is already being “worked on.” She added that the county has yet to announce when the development will begin process, as funding still needing to be secured.
