A crash Saturday afternoon killed a driver in Pike County.

According to a statement from Kentucky State Police, a driver, whose name was not available at presstime Monday, died in a two-vehicle crash just south of Pikeville. The crash, the statement said, occurred Saturday afternoon just before 1:30 p.m.

According to the KSP statement, the preliminary investigation into the crash indicated that a vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. 23 just south of the Pikeville city limits when its driver attempted to make a left turn. The vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a northbound vehicle, the statement said.

According to the statement, the driver of the southbound vehicle later died at Pikeville Medical Center.

No charges have been filed in the crash, pending the return of toxicology reports, the statement said. The crash, according to the statement, remains under investigation.
