Splish splash Valley falls to Bath By Randy White, Sports Editor ROBINSON CREEK — The rain showering down must have played into Bath County’s favor as the Wildcats of Bath pulled out a 14-12 win over Shelby Valley. Turnovers killed Shelby Valley. The Wildcats committed six turnovers and Bath County took advantage of those miscues and came away with a big Class 2A-7 District win. Bath County got on the scoreboard first. Quarterback Josh Terry found tight end Joseph Mabry for a touchdown. The two point conversion failed and the Wildcats from Bath County took a 6-0 lead. Shelby Valley answered late in the second quarter. Dillon Hughes took the ball from three yards out to tie the game at 6-6. Shelby Valley’s two-point conversion failed. Shelby Valley threw an interception to open the second half and Bath County’s Zach Metts punched the ball into the end zone to give Bath County the lead. The two-point conversion was good and Bath County took a 14-6 lead. The Wildcats of Shelby Valley answered on their next possession. Nathan Mullins capped off a big drive with a two-yard TD run. The two-point conversion was no good and Bath County held a 14-12 lead with 11:56 left in the game. Shelby Valley got the ball back and drove it to the Bath County 10-yard line. The Wildcats couldn’t overcome the Bath County defense. On fourth down, Shelby Valley went for the field goal to try and take the lead. B.J. Roberts lined up for a 32-yard kick, but it was no good and Bath County kept the lead. Shelby Valley held Bath County on the next possession, but the clock ran out on the Wildcats.
