BSCTC presents children’s musical July 24 Special To The News-Express Big Sandy Community and Technical College will host the 2008 BSCTC Children’s Music and Drama Production of Stories and Songs, Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. in Gearheart Auditorium in the Pike Building on the Prestonsburg campus. Admission is $5. The performance will be presented by children participating in BSCTC’s annual summer children’s music and drama camp under the direction of Laura Ford Hall, BSCTC communication faculty and music and drama director, along with assistant directors Michelle Fields, BSCTC faculty; Alyson McKenzie, Candace Preece, with Tim Cooley, technical director and Clayton Case. “This group of children is very talented,” Hall said. “They are good at both singing and acting. They are very sweet and have been one of the best groups I have ever worked with. I expect their production to be very good and I am so proud of them for all that they have accomplished.” Thirty children participated in the program this summer where they learned basic concepts of drama, acting, and vocal music. They will apply all of the concepts they have learned during the live production that includes choral music “Born to Hand Jive,” “Ordinary Miracle,” “Under the Sea,” and more as well as monologues, duos, and short plays. “We hope everyone will come to see our children’s production,” Hall concluded. “We are excited about the program and plan to offer it year after year. We are pleased to bring arts education opportunities not only to our college students, but also to the children in our area.”
