Jordan Bell signs with Georgetown

Special To The News-Express

Jordan Bell’s love and passion for the game of golf started at a very young age.

His drive to master the game has landed him a spot on the Georgetown College team this fall.

Bell signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Tigers during a ceremony held at the Green Meadows Country Club Wednesday morning.

“I’ve dreamed about this day,” Bell said. “I always wanted to play college golf since I first picked up a club.”

The former PHS golfer said he hoped to contribute to a young and talented squad.

“I’m excited about having the opportunity to go to Georgetown and play,” he said. “I know some of the guys on the team there so it should be a great experience for me.”

Georgetown head coach Flash Williams said the door of opportunity is there for Bell.

“He made a trip down to our campus and we played a round together,” Williams said. “He is a young man with tremendous golf skills.”

Williams said Bell was one of three recruits signed this year.

“We are a young team that is dominated by freshman and sophomore golfers,” Williams said. “Jordan’s game is in the mid seventies and he’s the kind of young man we are looking for to move our program in the right direction.”

Bell’s former high school head coach Eddie Venters said he feels the GC signee can become a tremendous player.

“In high school his golf game was limited because he played basketball,” Venters said. “There is a lot of upside to his game.”

Venters said now that Bell could concentrate solely on golf his game should improve.

“I think he has the potential to be an immediate impact to the program there,” Venters said. “Golf is his game.”

Bell said golf is “strictly his sport.”

“I think anyone who knows me realizes this is what I love to do. “I can’t thank Georgetown enough for giving me this great opportunity to play.”

He is the son of Robert and Vicki Bell of Robinson Creek.
