ATV wreck claims one life

The search for one Pike County man ended sadly this Christmas.

Danny Collins, 53, apparently died of injuries he received in an ATV accident on Red Creek, officials say.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Scott Hopkins said Collins was reported missing by family members on Christmas Day.

He left his home at approximately 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve to go ATV riding in Pike County, Hopkins said. He was last seen when he was returning home at 6 p.m.

Family members and friends searched for Collins and KSP officials were organizing search teams with the county emergency management team when Collins' body was discovered on Red Creek on Christmas Day by friends out searching. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton.

He was the victim of an apparent collision. Hopkins said he didn't have details about what caused the accident.

Millard Fire Department responded to the scene.
